Yangon

Shwedagon Pagoda in Myanmar’s capital of Yangon is one of the oldest pagodas in the world. Perched on a hill, the pagoda is 99 meters high and towers over the city. A symbol of national identity, the pagoda is the most revered Buddhist Pilgrimage destination. The Shwedagon Pagoda is home to eight strands of Buddha’s hair and other holy relics. Spread across the beautiful Singuttara hill, the gold-plated dome of Pagoda is topped by a stupa decorated with 5000 diamonds, rubies, sapphire, and other gems giving it a golden glow. At the very top of the stupa is a single 76-carat diamond adding an aura to the pagoda. The Shwedagon Pagoda is a fine example of Mynamar heritage and consists of hundreds of colorful temples, stupas, and statues. Visit the Shwedagon Pagoda Exhibit to learn about the history and importance of the monument.
