Trbovlje is located in central Sava valley in Slovenia. A former mining town, Trbovlje owes its development to coal mines. The coals produced in Trbovlje were used in the generation of electric power to the whole of Slovenia. The coal mines were closed after the second world war owing to poor working conditions. The mines were later taken over by the government. The mines are now a prime tourist spot and are used as a location for sports events. Explore the local history, ethnology, and culture of the town at Trbovlje Museum. The museum also houses a permanent exhibit on the evolution of coal mining in the town. Take a peek into the houses of a miner at the Njiva mining colony. The features of the house contain wooden floor beds, iron spoons, chairs without backrests, and uneven closets.
