Pattadakal

Pattadakal is a scenic Hindu and Jain temple complex situated on the Mallaprabha River in India’s Bagalkot district. A UNESCO world heritage site, Pattadakal was a major cultural and religious center. Visit Virupaksha temple, the largest temple in pattadakal built in the 8th century to commemorate the victory of Vikramaditya II over the Pallavas. The temple is home to sculptures of various Hindu Gods and has multiple inscriptions and stone carvings. Marvel at the Dravidian architecture of the Jain Temple built in the 9th century by King Amoghavarsha I. A life-size elephant statue adorns the entrance and also features 16 round large pillars inside the temple complex. Visit Mallikarjuna temple constructed in 745 AD dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is known for its wonderful carvings and scenes from Ramayana and Mahabharta.
